Well, we did leave Damascus, and we got wet today. We did 16.1 miles, plus about 1.4 miles past Lost Mountain Shelter…. which we really should’ve stopped at, because it started pouring before we were able to get any shelter up.
I got a flimsy ridgeline up and we were at least able to hang up the tarp to sit under for almost an hour while the rain came down. When it finally slowed, we quickly made our way up the trail a little ways to the actual campsite and got the tarp more securely up, then set the tent up underneath. Lucky we got that done pretty quickly, because another heavy wave of rain came through soon after.
We didn’t really even eat a real dinner tonight. We inhaled some trail mix and cheese and crackers, and we also drank the two beers we packed in (greatest decision). We’re now warm and dry in our tent, and hoping for some sun in the next few days.
Camp beer is the best beer! I remember drinking a beer before leaving a town for the calorie intake. You seem to be getting to the point where your caloric intake isn’t comparing to your burned calories. Glad you didn’t get sucked into Damascus! Keep pushing but remember too HYOH (Hike Your Own Hike)!
Handsome haircut, Alex, and every time I see Casey wearing my Dad’s old red cap it makes my heart swell. It’s great to see you both looking so well. Love, Peggy
